Our client who is part of a Group that specialises in Transportation is now looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and direct the delivery of a quality engineering support function for their depot

Direct Accountability
• Engineering costs and variance to budget for the depot
• Delivery of outstanding levels of engineering service, in line with Engineering Excellence
• Performance of the engineering team
• Compliance with Engineering Quality and Standards Manual,  HandS Manual and VOSA standards

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Quality – deliver an excellent and cost efficient engineering service in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures, to contribute to the operating profit of the depot. Understand the quality of the services delivered by the engineering team walking-the-job and liaising with Operations colleagues to monitor quality. Institute and maintain a continuous review of engineering standards, taking action as appropriate.

• Customer – establish and maintain internal and external relationships critical to local performance. Understand changing customer needs and embrace initiatives or projects designed to provide a positive change in the operation of the local business. Be respectful for both individuals and the diverse communities served; support a culture of integrity and honesty.

• Commercial and decision-making – assist with the preparation and implement annual engineering budget for the Redcar depot, ensuring targets are challenging, achievable and motivational. Focus on controlling operating costs and continuously review performance to budget, taking appropriate action to address any variances. Include relevant parties in the decision-making process and encourage empowerment whenever possible

• Communication – Engage and motivate the local engineering and operational team through effective leadership and communication forums to become a high performing unit. Ensure your team have the skills and capabilities to deliver local business objectives and role-model standards of high business and personal performance. Be visible, credible, knowledgeable and approachable and forge strong working relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. Operations, Trade Union, etc)

• Health and Safety - as a Manager within the organisation, take responsibility for ensuring that you are familiar with any health and safety risks and issues that are relevant to the work activities and areas for which you have responsibility and for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and Company Policy.

ACCOUNTABLE FOR
Engineering Supervisor/Charge-hand, engineering team and support staff (i.e. cleaners, fuellers)

RESPONSIBLE TO
Head of Engineering/Engineering Director

LIASE WITH
Externally: Strategically important customers and stakeholders such as; VOSA, Traffic Commissioner, Local Authorities, etc

Internally: Other Engineering Managers, Area MD, Heads of Engineering, Depot management team, local and UK Bus support functions for Finance, Commercial, Marketing, Regional HR Business Partner and Trade Union.
